Dead Man Running
As soon as I set off today I realised my legs were pretty much dead.
I’d planned to do four miles but soon revised my decision - three seemed more than enough. I was struggling to maintain an 8-min/mile pace, despite feeling like I was running 7:30.
Around the 2.80-mile area, something changed. Three miles seemed like failure. And it was.
So I did my four. Slowly - I had to sprint a bit at the end to get under my 32-minute mark of acceptability - but ended up averaging 7:58/mile.
I need to be averaging about 4.5 miles per day to ensure I do my planned thirty miles per week. I could have done three today, and rested my legs a bit more for tomorrow, but that would mean I’d need to find another mile and a half somewhere along the week. Doing four miles today means I only need to find half a mile. If I do five tomorrow, I’m on target.
I’m going to try and do longer runs on Tuesday and Friday this week. This should allow me one 20-30 minute run if I really feel I need it.
