Days 142 through 153
Updates on this blog continue to play second-fiddle to the reality of my life, so I think it’s best right now to focus on a weekly update - likely each Saturday or Sunday - and try and stick to that.
I’ve continued to be a minimalist runner, often out of time restraints but mostly because the weather is pretty awful. It’s consistently in the low 40s now, often with icy rain, and the wind has been as much as 35mph, which makes for a really unpleasant workout. I’m getting slightly concerned about what I’m going to do if I wake up one day to a severe frost, or even snow. I think almost inevitably I’m going to have to finish some of this on a treadmill.
Still, it’s been enough to get me past the 600 mile point!

* There’s some overlap here with my previous update but rest assured I haven’t added the mileage to my total twice.

Snow would force you inside? Man, I’d never get any running done with that attitude! Of course, last year we got over 150 inches (~4 meters) as of the last total I heard, which was 3 storms early. I recommend making yourself some good screw shoes, and then you don’t have to worry as much about slick surfaces. Just layer up to handle the cold.

Good advice, but you’ve got to remember I can’t afford to risk any kind of injury. Running on the snow or worse, ice, often what will be in the dark, is just asking for a sprained ankle. With something like that my streak would be toast! I’m not a fan of running on a treadmill but better that than risking everything just to get outside. ![]()

Im from Ireland and we have a saying…”No such thing as bad weather… just bad clothing.” Your right to be concerned about getting a sprain if you hit an ice patch but think about it, if you lived life worring about what MAY OR MAY NOT happen… you wouldnt get out of bed for fear of something might happen. My suggestion… just cover up and get out in the snow.
